Morzine is in the centre of the Portes du Soleil, the world's largest ski area but in the summer it is a great place with a host of activities on the doorstep.  These are described in detail below and we are always happy to advise on putting together a suitable programme geared to your own interests.

MULTI-ACTIVITY HOLIDAY

We can arrange a fun action packed holiday that is designed around the types of activities that you are specifically interested in.  This could be for just a couple of days or for a full week.  An example of a week's itinerary is as follows:

Day 1 White water rafting or hydrospeeding on River Dranse Paragliding (in tandem with instructor) from Avoriaz back down to Morzine
Day 2 Full day of mountain biking using chair lifts to help with the climbs.  Either with a guide or plan your own route.

Day 4 Bungee jumping from ski lift Visit outdoor Olympic swimming pool in Morzine
Days 5 & 6 2 day guided mountain hike staying overnight in mountain refuge

Please note that the cost of all activities are extra, depending on those you choose.

After each day's activity you can come back and relax in the chalet or garden and then have a 4 course evening meal with wine.  Alternatively, you may prefer to  visit one of the local restaurants.  We can also provide a packed lunch if required at a small extra cost.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The Portes du Soleil is an extremely popular location for biking in the Alps. There are 380 kms of mountain trails and 24 lifts are open from the end of June until mid-September. There are nine permanent downhill courses which are all accessible from Morzine. Many events are hosted here, including the Avalanche Cup and the Free Raid, available for all to enter in early summer.

For the less extreme, there are plenty of cross-country routes on a variety of terrains where you can take your time to enjoy the stunning scenery and partake of a picnic on the grass.

Mountain bikes can be hired from local shops – we can arrange this in advance if you wish.

ACTIVITIES IN THE AIR

Parapente (paragliding)

For first-timers, a tandem flight can be arranged for about €60, or you can take a four-day course to learn to fly solo! You are promised an unforgettable experience over stunning scenery.


Hot air ballooning

Flights over the Alps can be arranged, enabling you take incredible photographs. Flights cost around €200 euros per person.


Bungee jumping

You can bungee jump 80 metres off the Nyon Telepherique.

WALKING AND TREKKING

There are over 300 km of marked walking and trekking routes in the Portes du Soleil and where the chair lifts can be used to take the hard work out of the ascent. There is walking and trekking for all ages and abilities – from low-level walks through Alpine pastures to demanding high mountain hikes. We can, if required, use our mini bus to drop you off at a particular starting point and then meet you again at a different destination. There are several local peaks with fabulous views to Lake Geneva in one direction and Mont Blanc in the other. A mountain guide can also be hired for the day or for overnight hikes where you can stay in a mountain refuge.

GOLF

For golfing enthusiasts there are nearby courses at Les Gets and Avoriaz and several others at Evian, Annecy, Chamonix, Megeve and Flaine, all between 45 and 90 minutes by car. They are set amidst breathtaking scenery in a variety of landscapes. You can use our chalet as a base to visit these courses which will challenge everyone to a great golfing experience. RIVER ACTIVITIES

The river Dranse which runs through Morzine is well known for its water activities, from white-water rafting to canooing.

White-water rafting

Be in a team of 6 to 8 people in an inflatable dinghy as you tackle the rapids. You’ll get wet but you’ll have a brilliant time!


Kayak raft

Make your way down the rapids in an inflatable canoe for two.


Hydrospeeding

This is for the adventurous, where you fly down the rapids in a wet suit and flippers and with a float to steer your way. Guaranteed thrills each time!


Canyoning

Under the watchful eye of a mountain guide and equipped with a helmet, wet suit, harness and ropes, you abseil down a waterfall, jump into deep pools and slide down smaller falls.


Canoeing and kayaking

At Lake Montriond and on the river Dranse, you can hire a canoe or kayak to explore the area.


Fishing and angling

Fishing permits can be purchased for local rivers and lakes. The river Dranse is famous for its trout fishing.

CLIMBING

There are three cliffs in Le Biot and an indoor, artificial climbing wall in the Morzine sports centre. Lessons can be arranged for groups or individuals.

HORSE RIDING

There are two riding schools offering a variety of equestrian activities from the ages of 4 upwards. There are many paths you can take through beautiful mountain scenery.

SWIMMING

Morzine boasts a 50 metre outdoor pool with a 100m water slide and a play area for young children and toddlers. There is plenty of room for sunbathing too. Swimming lessons can be booked and there are many other activities available, e.g. water polo and beach volleyball. For a more natural experience, you can swim in Lake Montriond or in the man-made lake at Les Gets which has a water slide and pontoon.

ROPES COURSES

There are several adventure parks in the area where you are harnessed up and can swing safely from tree to tree like Tarzan!

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Tennis

Morzine has 18 tennis courts, available by the hour and racquets may be hired from the club house. Courses are available during the summer.


Summer luge

Take a toboggan and fly down the summer luge run at Pleney. It’s a 900 metre descent and you can choose either the fast or slow lane.


Other activities

Include skate board park, ice skating, crazy golf, basketball, football, helicopter rides and mountain boarding.

SIGHTSEEING

As well as exploring Morzine with its old town and traditional craft shops, the town is an ideal place from which to explore the local area. There are many beautiful places to visit within an hour or so of Morzine.


Lake Geneva

You can visit the beautiful flower-strewn, medieval town of Yvoire on Lake Geneva, as well as Thonon and Evian. Boat trips are available on the lake and you can take a cruise across to the Swiss side of the lake to Lausanne or Montreux.

Annecy

Annecy has an amazing lake-side setting beneath the snow-capped Aravis mountain range. It is one of the most beautiful and historic towns in France with cobbled streets, tiled streets and clear-water canals. You can explore the old town and take a boat trip around the lake.


Chamonix and Mont Blanc

Chamonix is at the foot of Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc. It boasts a good selection of shops and you can take a funicular railway to explore the Mer de Glace glacier. Alternatively, a telecabine will take you to the top of the Aiguille de Midi at 3842 metres with breaktaking views of the Alps and Mont Blanc.


Other trips

Samoëns – a listed village with lovely Alpine gardens.

Sixt-fer-à-Cheval has a national park with easy walking through spectacular scenery.

Lake Montriond – a gorgeous lake which you can walk around and swim in.

Abondance valley – there is an ancient working abbey and fromagerie, home of Abondance cheese.

Avoriaz – the futuristic ski resort above Morzine.
