MOUNTAIN BIKING
Mountain bike "Passeportes"
You can follow the 'Free Raid' mountain bike course any time you like with 'Passeportes'.
The Free Raid mountain bike event at the beginning of the season is very popular and so the Portes du Soleil has made the course available to guide visitors around the area. There are six checkpoints along the way and a certificate if you complete the course! At tourist offices, or local sports shops buy plates for your bike, a road-book, a Portes du Soleil mountain bike map and of course a book to be stamped at each checkpoint. (18.29€, lift pass included)
The Portes du Soleil Mountain Bike Tour
The 80km of trails of the 'Tour des Portes du Soleil' are made up of 85% downhill, 15% flat and 5% uphill, and are accessed by 23 lifts running every day during the summer season. This incredible trek between Valais and the Vallée d'Aulps is recognised by the FFC (Fédération Française de Cyclisme). On the Swiss sections the route is marked by the Touring Club Suisse. The downhill courses are classed as red runs (for experienced riders), but there are many blue routes in the 12 resorts of the Portes du Soleil where you can practice in safety. Thanks to the lift system, it is possible to complete the 'Tour des Portes du Soleil ' in a day and have an amazing time! Why not spread the tour over two days if you prefer to take your time and admire the countryside, accompanied by the relaxing sound of cowbells and enjoy a picnic lunch on the grass or eat at one of the many refuges along the way.

Morzine's famous climb above the ski resort is the Col de Joux Plane which is 1,700 metres in altitude and a difficult climb. The Col de Joux Plane was the final climb on stage 16 of the 2000 Tour de France on the stage from Couchevel to Morzine. Lance Armstrong described the stage as 'the hardest day of my cycling life'.
