Activities - Winter

Morzine is in the centre of the Portes du Soleil, the world's largest ski area with 650 km of linked piste spread over 12 resorts (7 in France and 5 in Switzerland).

Skiing and Boarding

This vast area offers a massive variety of runs for all standards of skier and snowboarder - from gentle tree-lined slopes to the infamous Swiss wall in Le Croset. Avoriaz is one of the world's major boarding centres and there are 4 board parks in the area and plenty of off-piste for the more adventurous. For those who prefer cross-country, there are 250 km of routes to choose from. Morzine's free and efficient ski bus service will take you to the slopes and there will no long walks in ski boots for you - we have a bus stop directly outside the chalet! If you do have any problems during the day, or require assistance, just call us and we'll be glad to help. There are no shortage of mountain restaurants where you can relax and eat whilst taking in the amazing scenery. They are reasonably priced and as well as the well-known favourites pasta and pizza, you can try some of the traditional Savoyard dishes such as tartiflette or fondue.

Ski Passes

We will organise ski passes for you in advance to save you time queuing on Monday morning and make sure you have that extra bit of time to ski! We recommend the full Portes du Soleil 'hands free' electronic pass for intermediate/advanced level, whilst novices may prefer to consider the lower-priced Morzine/Avoriaz pass. Please let us know at time of booking if you wish us to organise this for you.

Ski Schools

Morzine has a good selection of ski schools with both the British-run British Alpine Ski Schools of Morzine and Avoriaz and the French ski school ESF. Group or private lessons can be booked and we recommend that you pre-book lessons (especially at peak times).

Equipment Rental

If you need to hire equipment we recommend the use of our preferred ski hire, a shop which stocks a good selection of equipment with friendly staff. You will even get a 20% discount as guests of Chez les Alps! An added bonus is that it is possible to leave your skis and boots in the shop overnight. For those with their own equipment, we provide a storage area with heated boot rack. Please ask for details.
